Arboretum Suggests Master Plan

Members of the Tree Committee met last month with two consultants from the Nebraska Arboretum to discuss how to maintain the beds in our park.

They recommend we develop a master maintenance plan for the park that builds on the 1987 Sutton plan (see Documents page for Sutton plan).

Some of their initial conclusions include:

  • The site does not have a current Master Plan that addresses Preservation and Maintenance. Developing this plan
with NSA or another Landscape Architect would be a priority
  • Proper landscape maintenance practices, including pruning, turf care, tree care, pest control, and plant material
replacement should be specified to any neighborhood volunteer or local contractor conducting work in the park.
These processes and language would be spelled out in a Master Plan Maintenance Plan.
  •  NSA believes that the scale of the site requires commercial landscaping equipment for efficient and effective management. This can either be rented, hired locally, or invested in by the neighborhood.
